Cookie Policy

Last updated: 4 April 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how Money Sorted (www.moneysorted.money) uses them, and what choices you have. We’ve tried to keep this as clear and jargon-free as possible — ironically, for a site about financial literacy, it’d be a bit embarrassing if our own policies were unreadable.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone or tablet) when you visit them. They’re used for all sorts of things — remembering your preferences, understanding how people use the site, and making things work properly. They’re not programs, they can’t give you a virus, and they definitely can’t read your bank balance.

How we use cookies

Money Sorted uses a limited number of cookies to keep the site running smoothly. Here’s what we use and why:

Essential cookies

These are necessary for the website to function. Without them, things like page navigation and secure areas of the site wouldn’t work. You can’t opt out of these — they’re the digital equivalent of keeping the lights on.

CookiePurposeDuration
wordpress_sec_*Keeps you logged in if you have an accountSession
wordpress_logged_in_*Identifies logged-in usersSession
wp-settings-*Stores your WordPress dashboard preferences1 year

Performance and caching cookies

We use WP Super Cache to make the site load faster. This may set cookies to serve cached versions of pages, which means less waiting around for you.

Analytics cookies

We may use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand how people use the site — which pages are popular, where visitors come from, and how long they stay. This data is anonymised and helps us improve the site. If we add analytics, we’ll update this section with specific details.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies may be set by third-party services we use, such as embedded videos, social media buttons or payment processors. We don’t control these cookies — they’re governed by the privacy policies of those third parties.

Your choices

You have several options for managing cookies:

Browser settings: Most web browsers let you control cookies through their settings. You can usually find these in the “Options” or “Preferences” menu. You can delete existing cookies, allow or block all cookies, or set preferences for certain websites.

Opt out of analytics: If we implement Google Analytics, you can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Bear in mind that blocking all cookies may affect how the site works for you. Essential cookies are needed for basic functionality, so switching them off might mean some features don’t behave as expected.

UK GDPR and PECR

We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) in our use of cookies. We only use non-essential cookies with your consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by adjusting your browser settings or contacting us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as the site develops and we add new features. When we do, we’ll update the date at the top. We’d suggest checking back occasionally, though we accept that re-reading cookie policies isn’t most people’s idea of a good time.
