Money Sorted (www.moneysorted.money) is run by Tim Pethick. We take your privacy seriously — which, given we spend a lot of time talking about protecting your money, should hopefully come as no surprise. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what we do with it.
We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for Money Sorted is Tim Pethick. If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us at hello@moneysorted.uk.
What data we collect and why
When you browse the site
Like most websites, our server automatically collects certain technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, operating system and the pages you view. We use this to keep the site running, identify technical issues and understand how people use the site in general terms. This data is not used to identify you personally.
When you sign up to our newsletter
If you subscribe to the Money Sorted newsletter, we collect your email address (and your name if you provide it). We use this solely to send you the newsletter and occasional updates about Money Sorted content. We will never sell or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
When you contact us
If you email us or use a contact form, we collect whatever information you choose to share (typically your name and email address). We use this only to respond to your enquiry. We won’t add you to any mailing list unless you specifically ask us to.
When you purchase something
If you buy a product (such as an eBook or course), we may collect your name, email address and payment information. Payment processing is handled by third-party providers — we do not store your card details on our servers. We keep purchase records as required for accounting and tax purposes.
When you leave a comment
If you leave a comment on a blog post, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
Our legal basis for processing
Under the UK GDPR, we process your personal data on the following bases:
- Consent — when you sign up to our newsletter or submit a contact form
- Legitimate interests — for site analytics and security (we have a legitimate interest in understanding how our site is used and keeping it secure)
- Contract — when processing purchases you have made
- Legal obligation — where we are required to keep records for tax or regulatory purposes
How long we keep your data
We keep your data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. Newsletter subscribers’ data is kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept for up to 12 months. Purchase records are kept for 7 years as required by HMRC. Comments are retained indefinitely unless you ask us to remove them.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with trusted third-party services that help us run the site (such as our email newsletter provider, hosting company or payment processor). These services are only permitted to use your data to provide their service to us, not for their own marketing.
Cookies
We use cookies on this site. For full details, please see our Cookie Policy.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data (a “subject access request”)
- Rectify inaccurate data we hold about you
- Erase your personal data (the “right to be forgotten”)
- Restrict how we process your data
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@moneysorted.uk. We will respond within one month.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, we’d appreciate the chance to put it right — please contact us first. If you’re still not satisfied, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.
